Volume Two, das ist die erste Wiederholung einer vielversprechenden Strategie. Sequels führen immer wieder zurück in vertraute Welten, die nicht überfordern und wenn sie noch so apoka-lyptisch sind. Die Wiederholung ist aber auch eine bewährte künstlerische Strategie. Arbeiten in Serie. Dranbleiben statt immer wieder neu anfangen. Und dann klingt auch noch ein Volumen zweiter Ordnung an: eine flache Skulptur, eine Skulptur ohne Rückseite, ist das überhaupt noch eine Skulptur?

The title of this year’s exhibition as part of the Jahresausstellung draws on the ubiquitous mar-keting strategy used in blockbuster cinema and popular fiction. Volume Two marks the first iteration of a promising strategy. Sequels to successful intellectual properties repeatedly lead us back to familiar worlds that never overwhelm us—no matter how apocalyptic they may be. But repetition is also a tried-and-true artistic strategy. Working in series, staying with it instead of starting over again. And then there’s the suggestion of something like a second-tier volume: a flat sculpture—a sculpture that doesn’t have a rear—is it even a sculpture?
